SAN DIEGO, CA - With the 2010 Rookie Draft moving into the second round at a record pace, the Padres again found themselves on the clock yesterday. San Diego selected Reid Brignac, a 24-year old inflielder from St. Amant, Louisiana. The team plans for Brignac to spend 2010 filling in for Orlando Hudson at second, and Edgar Renteria at short when either needs a day off.

SAN DIEGO, CA - This past Saturday, the San Diego Padres selected David Price, a starting pitcher out of Vanderbilt University, with their first round (6th overall) pick in the 2010 rookie draft. Price, previously a winner of the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, is expected to slide into a Padres rotation that already features Joe Blanton and Carlos Zambrano. The Padres acquired the 6th overall pick as part of the deal sending Paul Konerko and Mike Fontenot to the Baltimore Orioles last October. Price is the ninth starting pitcher the Padres have selected in the first round since 1995. His fastball tops out at 97 mph. He will often go to his excellent slider as an out pitch. Price was born on August 25, 1985 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The highlight reel below was distributed to all 28 PGL-MLB teams by the Vanderbilt sports marketing department. |
